CHANGE DURING COVID-19:

OurHistory will meet online via Zoom—once-a-month on Sundays.

What is ourhistory?

Come meet other adult transracial adoptees, ages 18+ in a safe place*, to discuss shared experiences, similarities, and differences as transracial adoptees. While each adoption story and journey is unique, ultimately, we can connect with one another by sharing our stories and providing support. Many times, the adoptee's voice is silenced. Here is the opportunity to join other adoptees and let our voices be heard.

What is a safe space?

A “safe space” is defined as, “a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm” (Oxford Dictionary).

At OurHistory, a “safe space” is a place for transracial adult adoptees to gather—regardless of adoption background (domestic, international, foster care, etc.) and outside of an adoption agency—to discuss our stories, experiences, and journeys as adoptees. The experts of the adoptee experience are adoptees. Who better to provide support and a safe place?

OurHistory is a place to provide support—by adoptees, for adoptees.

Is this a therapy group?

No—OurHistory is not a therapy group; participation in OurHistory is not intended as a substitute for professional counseling and/or medical treatment. OurHistory is a peer-led discussion group. If an adoptee would like a referral for a therapist/counselor, please feel free to let us know and we would be happy to refer you to an adoption-competent therapist.

When will OurHistory meet?
