The Dear Chingu: Mentor-2-Mentee (M2M) Program is a combination of our Dear Chingu Penpal Program and OurRoots Mentorship Program. The M2M program coordinates letter exchanges between adult adoptees (18+)—who are the mentors and youth adoptees (6-17)—who are the mentees. Mentors and mentees can live anywhere around the world!

Mentee registration coming soon!

How does it work?

Mentee

Mentor

  1. Mentor submits application to AdopteeBridge

  2. Upon successful background/reference checks and training, submits short bio and photo

  3. After completion of steps 1 & 2, mentor will wait for mentee match

  4. When matched with mentee, mentor will correspond with mentee via AdopteeBridge for a period of 12 months (1 year)

  1. Parent/guardian submits application to AdopteeBridge, along with program deposit

  2. Mentee writes short bio and photo (if parent/guardian permission received)

  3. After completion of steps 1 & 2, mentee will wait for mentor match

  4. When matched with mentee, program balance is due and mentee will correspond w/ mentor via AdopteeBridge for period of 12 months (1 year)

Program Outline:

  • Correspondence will be facilitated by AdopteeBridge via email

  • Matches will last for a period of 12 months (1 year)

  • A fee of $75 per year is required to cover the AdopteeBridge costs of background/reference checks/training of mentors and facilitating correspondence

    • A total of 8 exchanges will be sent (4 from mentor, 4 from mentee), but we highly encourage mentees/mentors to actively correspond!

    • A $15 deposit is due at registration. The balance of $60 is due at the time of match.

The "both" option is for adoptees 18-early 20's. If you would like a mentor, we will try to also match you with an older adoptee to correspond with.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. How are matches made?

    • Upon application, we will ask mentors and mentees (via parents) a series of questions. We will use these items to match mentors and mentees.

  2. Will my child be matched with a mentor adopted from the same birth country?

    • If this is requested, AdopteeBridge will try their best, but there are no guarantees.

    • A mentee/mentor may be matched according to similar interests/hobbies, similar region of the world, etc.

  3. Why facilitated correspondence? Why can’t my family be in direct contact with the mentor?

    • We are protecting the minors’ involvement with the program. Safety is our #1 priority

    • It is also important the mentee and mentor feel they are closely in direct contact. This is why we give the mentee (if parent/guardian permission received) to email AdopteeBridge directly! The unique part of the M2M program, this is especially important if the mentee has a question about how to ask their parent about particular topics, has a bad day at school and wants to write a quick email to their mentor to vent, etc.

    • If there is any content that is deemed inappropriate, AdopteeBridge will contact parents ASAP
