  2. After reviewing the general guidelines, please complete the application.

  3. Applications for returning mentors will be accepted from June 1-August 1, 2019. We would appreciate it if you could please submit your application sooner, rather than later!

  4. Once the application as been submitted, you will be contacted by OurRoots staff within 1-3 business days for confirmation of your application and acceptance as a mentor for the 2019-2020 OurRoots program. As returning mentors, you have priority! This means, you have priority acceptance over brand new mentors. Consistency with the mentees from not only one activity to the next, but from one session to the next is so important!

General Guidelines

  • Act as a role model for mentees ages 6-17—all of whom are at an impressionable age. Set an example of positive values, attitudes, and behaviors and maintain a confident, mature, and level-headed image.

  • Treat all mentees equally—no mentee should be discriminated against or treated differently based on their race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, or sexual orientation. No favoritism should be shown toward a specific mentee, and no mentee should be excluded.

  • Be inclusive—get to know mentees by name and pay attention to their personalities. Find out what their interests are and help make them feel included and involved.

  • Participate in one (1) training session on August 25th (12:00pm-5:00pm)—This training session will review the expectations as a mentor, and facilitate team building among mentors and AdopteeBridge staff with whom you will be interacting with for the 2019-2020 school year. The training includes lunch and there will be an optional happy hour activity after the training!

  • Commit to fully participating in 2019-2020 OurRoots Mentorship Program Activities—Consistent attendance from one activity to the next, is so important! In order to build meaningful, trustful relationships, it is crucial to be present for the activities.

    • Fall Session: September 14th, October 12th, November 16th, December 14th

    • Spring Session: February 15th, March 14th, April 18th, May 16th

  • All volunteers are subject to successful completion of background checks. Background checks are valid for a period of three years. When we contact you for your confirmation of your application, we will let you know if your background check is still valid. If not, we will supply mentors with the proper instructions and forms to complete. The background check form and additional item(s) requested must be returned to AdopteeBridge by August 25th. The background check expense is covered by AdopteeBridge, but any expenses (such as identification card), must be covered by the volunteer themselves. Failure to provide the correct forms or information, or to successfully pass the background check could result from dismissal as a volunteer with AdopteeBridge.
